Former Ford Factory on National Day

Happi Angs in national colour ... Mr Ang insisted  that he was in red ... i said it was pink... =P

Celebrating Singapore's 52nd year of Independence with a 'National Day Special' @ Oblong the night before...
Bandung Ice cream with Pandan and Gula Melaka Waffle @ $10 ... nice change to suit the occasion but i still very much prefer my usual Red Velvet Waffle paired with Mr Ang's favourite jackfruit ice cream....wahahahahaha

Lunch was at Kaneta Shoten followed by a cup of my favourite bubble tea - Passionfruit Green Tea with Aiyu from Woobbee

one conversation led to another and another and we decided that the day shall be our August's 'Happi Wife, Happi Ang' day and that it shall be related to Singapore since it was National Day ....

so to Former Ford Factory we went...
for those of you who were wondering how a Former (old) Ford (car) Factory got to do with Singapore... then you might have missed out on the big hoo-ha over its name, Syonan Gallery, back in February...

i understand the thoughts for not using the name 'Syonan Gallery' but to just use 'Former Ford Factory' for this gallery is just so undermining... =S

it actually reminds me of this scene in Big Bang Theory where Sheldon gave his opinion on why Xbox 1 is named Xbox 1.... =S

without background knowledge, or some research, i feel that few will know that Former Ford Factory is actually a gallery about Singapore's painful past... =S

back to Former Ford Factory whose full name includes
'Surviving the Japanese Occupation - War & its Legacies'

the factory was originally in Tanjong Pagar but shifted to its Bukit Timah area due to lower land cost and shorter distance into Malaya using the rail

in this very room where the agreement was signed

what?!?!??!!... from $0.50 in Feb 1942 for 12 eggs to $432.60 in September 1945... crazy inflation in 3 years 8 months ... this is what could happen if a country does not have sound monetary policies....

in other words, the war was a blessing made possible from the sacrifices of those who perished and suffered during the war

how babies were weigh long long time ago...

spent more than 2 hours in this gallery.... i like this gallery... instead of focusing on the gore, torture and violence during the period... it was on facts and recounts....

it's definitely a place for learning and appreciation of the peaceful life that we enjoy now...  i would highly recommend it for school learning journey for the upper primary as they are lots and lots of reading and listening... it's definitely not a place for 'fun and play @ the museum' ...

goofing around

drove by the rail and decided to check it out too...

tea break was at this shen&co, a cafe that sells antiques as well, at Bukit Timah Plaza

i chose to sit at the sewing machine table just so that i can move my legs non-stop during the meal... wahahahahaha....

sticky toffee ice cream for me

Mr Ang was in the mood for the day and suggested a few more stations for visit and i found myself at ...

Thank You

first time see him so onx on our Happi Wife, Happi Angs date day

wait.... what?!?!?!?!...aiyo... got croc lo.... 此地不可久留

day ended with dinner @ the chuas and a simple birthday celebration for the Chua's August babies....
