From Singapore to Jiufen

From Singapore to Jiufen - day 1
(12 June 2012)

early birdies at 540am.. on the way to meet 洪大哥 who sacrificed his 睡眠 to 载洪爸爸,洪妈妈,Mr Ang and I to the airport for our flight at 855am (check in at 655am)....

at the waiting area in budget terminal....actually quite like this terminal for its waiting area.... speakers on the armchair, many      computers paired with fewer commuters = got chance to use....heee...

we paid an extra S$25 for extra leg space and i would say that i LOVE it.... heee.... and managed to complete my P3 and P4 art curriculum within the 4.5 hours flight to taiwan cos there was nothing else to do on the plane....wahahaha.....

reached Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (桃园国际机场) at approx 1.40pm.... forgot to apply for Mr Ang's Youth Card...the one that could give us a discount to most of the tourist attractions which we would be visiting... super sad la.... guess my empty stomach ruled over my brain for that moment.... =S

driver, Mr Wang
drove us to his friend's shop which was less than 5 minutes away from the airport to have lunch

he was arranged by our minsu to pick us up from  桃园国际机场 to jiufen at NT$2000 (S$86.60) ... it was the cheapest quote which i gotten from my intensive research prior to the trip .... then from our conversation on the journey there, Mr Wang told us that he only charges NT$1500, the remaining NT$500 was charged by the company which our minsu had engaged for his services.... so we decided to engaged him for the trip from taipei minsu to the airport on our return trip ..... he only charged us NT$700 (S$30.30) .... =).... cheapest quote found previously was NT$888... that's another NT$188 (S$8.15) saved.... heee...

Mr Wang is very young, only 24, not the typical taiwan cabby that doubles up as tour guide... very gentle and quiet but will chat with my uber talkative Mr Ang who kept asking questions... hahaha...

anyway, the eating place which he brought us to is a very simple and bare shop with no customers... cos airport area was flooded that morning due to the heavy rain the day before... super sad to hear that la and with all the news of earthquake and thunderstorm news on the tv .... we started to get worried about this holiday...=S

super delicious 猪排面 which cost NT$60 (S$2.60) per bowl...

our very young and cute looking driver was very nice as to take us on the slightly longer and more scenic route up to Jiufen (九份)

黄金瀑布 (Golden waterfall)

yes...it was drizzling.... the start of our very wet holiday....

our minsu (民宿)

was up a flight of steps.... Mr Ang had a tough time lugging the 2 big luggage from the vehicle to the minsu... =S

entrance deco.... i likey

爸爸 and 洪妈妈's Japanese Zen Room was quite like the one featured on the main website ... we paid NT$2000 (S$86.60) per night for room

din take too many photos cos 爸爸 and 洪妈妈 had already unpacked by the time we went in to take photos...

our Mediterranean Room was kind of disappointing though... it was 2 bends away from the main area and the surrounding was really not that pleasing to the eye... but we found out that the whole jiufen area is like this.... it's like a laid back kampong chinatown

view right in front of our unit

view to the right

view to the right

the room was about 70% of what was featured... the furniture was the same just a little old but the room was huge...

However, i would want to say that the service is really not bad.... more about that in the next entry.... =)

armed with umbrellas, we headed to 九份老街 (jiufen old street) which was just 2 flight of stairs away from our minsu... 1 minute is more than enough to get to 九份老街 from our room.... =)

Our first eat of the trip and one of Mr Ang's favourite

love the deco...=)

Jiufen is a pro-dog country too.... they are everywhere in.... so cute...miss my brownie and snowy....awwww....

Mr Ang with the famous sausage auntie of jiufen

first 土产 bought.... it's codfish with seaweed... comes in 3 favour; original, spicy and wasabi....  very crispy and very yummy..... NT$100 (S$4.40) per back.... buy 5 get 1 free....

initial plan was to go keelung for the night market ....the trip would take approx 40 minutes each way..... cancelled it as it was rainy and we were all tired from all the travelling.....so ended up having dinner at jiufen itself....

as we din really bother to look around for a proper place to eat, we settled into one of the roadside shop...... 3 bowls of  特制面 for them and a bowl of 滷肉饭 for me.... added a small plate of veg to share..... our appetite was really not that fantastic due to the rain and the travelling.... =S

to illustrate how tired we were.....
Mr Ang dozed off at 730pm

my eyes were half the original size and needed a lot of effort to keep them open for this shot at 730pm.....  =S

Hi

Do you still have the contact for the driver?? I'm thinking of heading to jiufen straight from the airport as well. Thanks!
