Making our canvas from scratch
the canvas must leave at least a 10cm border around the wooden frame.
|frame is made with 2" by 1" striped wood|
canvas is cotton canvas btw 350 - 380 threadcount and cost abt $400 for 45m
secure using canvas pliers ($15 - $20) and staple using industrial staple gun
paint the canvas evenly with emulsion paint
this layer of emulsion paint will be absorbed into the canvas. It will greatly reduce the amount of paint absorbed during the actual painting.
this bottle of beads-like stuff is "hide-glue" (made from horse skin....eweeee). It can be applied to the back of the canvas that is not painted with the emulsion paint to prevent decomposition so that the artwork can be kept for an even loner time (read centuries)
step 5: (after the paint had completely dried up)
sanding the surface with sandpaper
this is part 6 of 7 parts to the series "Advanced Diploma in Primary Art Education". A series of blog posts that are updated weekly (from aug - nov) to document the activities, progress and learning point(s) from the week's lessons... =)
